IRS Agents in the Church:Tax Compliance Officers
The Office of Special Affairs (OSA) are the bad-boys of the Scientology heirachy, the fear merchants, the legal eagles, the private investigation branch, the department of general thuggery and skullduggery. Naturally, that's where former Assistant Commissioner
of IRS, Meade Emory, decided to put the in-house IRS agents, calling them "Tax Compliance Officers."
OSA is tucked away in a middle-management corporation called Church of Scientology International (CSI), named that by Meade Emory to lull the media and the rubes into believing that's the center of the Scientology universe. Of course the real nerve center of Scientology, and the IRS control point on Scientology, is actually the Church of Spiritual Technology (CST), where Emory installed three hand-picked non-Scientologist tax attorneys for life as "Special Directors"--the senior IRS agents inside Scientology. But IRS also needed point men in the trenches with the ability to run covert IRS intelligence operations inside the churches, so Meade Emory set up the senior Tax Compliance Section at OSA, with branch-office Tax Compliance Sections in every major Scientology organization reporting daily to the main office at OSA, who then reports to the CST tax-attorney Special Directors and to IRS.
The existence of these IRS agents inside Scientology organizations was first exposed by the Public Research Foundation (PRF) in a press release that's in our Newsroom. As they reported, Tax Compliance Sections and Tax Compliance Officers are described in a booklet called, naturally enough, the Tax Compliance Manual--once-confidential, but now available on Google, and you can read if you want to wade through it. It's there in two parts, but Part 1 is where the Tax Compliance Sections are described, Part 2 being mainly sample legal and tax forms and documents and other tax esoterica.
It's easy to be fooled into thinking that the Tax Compliance Officers are only there to enforce tax compliance for the corporations themselves, but that simply isn't the case. As PRF also reported in another press release, rank-and-file Scientologists are threatened with expulsion if they get out of line as taxpayers.
There's no reason to try and sugar-coat it: IRS has agents now operating inside Scientology, micro-managing not only Scientology as a whole, but snooping into the private lives and financial affairs of Scientologists. And since IRS is in the Treasury Department, and the Treasury Department is part of the cabinet of the President of the United States, this is all being carried out with the full knowledge and power of the highest office in the land, and all being managed and carried out with your tax dollars.
Scientology is, in short, the first official federal religion of the United States.
